The spotted eagle-owl, also known as the African spotted eagle-owl and the African eagle-owl, is a medium-sized species of owl, one of the smallest of the eagle owls. Spotted eagle-owls are generally solitary birds. During the day they roost in trees, rock crevices, caves, under bushes, or sometimes even in abandoned burrows. The African spotted eagle owl is the most common species of eagle owl found in southern Africa.
In Kruger National Park, my wife and I did a late night safari tour. We came across some hyenas and lions along the way. We spotted this lone owl sitting on top of a tree at some distance but it was looking away from us in the opposite direction. I was waiting patiently with my Tamaron 600mm lens for it to turn its head towards us. More than 20 minutes passed before it turned its head towards us for one second - but that was enough to capture this shot!
